When my younger daughter started learning piano, we tried a different teacher and quickly regretted it. Luckily Dr. Ma had an opening, so we signed up the little one with her too. When my child gets overwhelmed or frustrated with a new piece, Dr. Ma can calm her by breaking down the piece to more manageable steps. My daughter Helen has been taking private piano lessons with Dr. Ma for over seven years since she was 5. We have really enjoyed this piano learning journey. Dr. Ma always makes piano learning fun and accessible for beginners; she loves to demonstrate the pieces to inspire the kids and shows great enthusiasm when playing and teaching. Dr. Ma is very patient and explains the music theory in an easy-to-understand way. Helen started loving playing and practicing piano from the very early lessons.

Dr. Ma emphasizes a lot on the basis of piano skills such as rhythm and sight-reading starting from day one and develops student’s skills step-by-step. She always holds high standards about the practicing quality, identifies and fixes the issues by demonstrating and teaching in a hands-on way, which is extremely helpful to form good habits. For the harder concepts she always explains patiently and breaks things down into smaller pieces giving detailed instructions and encouraging the kid to gradually master them.

After she has grasped the basic skills Dr. Ma gradually developed Helen's ability to independently do sight-reading and play new pieces, always pushing the limit to perform perfectly. Through this journey of learning and practicing Helen improved a lot. She not only developed the solid fundamental piano skills and her interest in music but also boosted her confidence in learning new instruments and new things in the future. We really love the experience of piano learning with Dr. Ma!
